TV PSA – U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
“Score with Health Playbook” Campaign
Program Description
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would appreciate your station or network’s participation in airing these important PSAs to educate your audience on the safe disposal of unused opioid medications.
Did you know that between 42-71% of opioids prescribed to surgical patients go unused? That’s a dangerous reality when you consider the fact that half the people who misused prescription opioids actually got them from someone else.
These new PSAs from the FDA are intended to help change this statistic by educating the public on the importance of disposing of excess opioids in the home. In these spots, NFL Hall of Fame Defensive Back Darrell Green encourages viewers to keep their “home team” and “home playing field” safe by removing unused medications before they fall into the wrong hands, and by visiting fda.gov/healthplaybook for more information. Health Playbook is a health series designed to be fun, informative and appealing to a broad, sports-minded audience, with a special emphasis on men. The series features NFL Hall of Famers and other sports league and Olympic champions that will relay health and wellness information by using sports metaphors and dramatizations.
This release also includes a 30-second Medicine Cabinet PSA produced in previous years.
Campaign Mission
- Encourage viewers—especially difficult-to-reach men—to protect their loved ones by disposing of unused opioid medications found in the home.
- Direct the audience to fda.gov/healthplaybook for more information and disposal tips.
