Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS)
EVERGREEN (no expiration date);
Every day across the Commonwealth, adults aged 60 and older—as well as incapacitated adults 18 and older – experience self-neglect, financial exploitation, and abuse. These forms of mistreatment often go unreported, leaving vulnerable adults without critical assistance and intervention.
The PSAs were produced in multiple formats to help educate Virginians on three urgent issues:
- Self-Neglect: Spotlighting the inability of some adults to meet essential needs—such as food, hygiene, medical care, or safe living conditions—and emphasizing the importance of early reporting before conditions worsen.
- Financial Exploitation: Raising awareness that trusted persons can financially exploit a vulnerable adult.
- Abuse: Highlighting physical abuse of adults and urging healthcare professionals to act when something seems wrong.
