Compassion & Choices
“Care and Choice at the End of Life” Campaign
Evergreen (no expiration date)
Program Description:
California’s End of Life Option Act allows terminally ill adults with six months or less to live the option to peacefully end unbearable suffering. Seventy-five percent of Californians support having the option of medical aid in dying, according to an October 2019 California Health Care Foundation survey. But this law can be difficult to access.
The Compassion & Choices PSAs feature Dolores Huerta, civil rights activist and president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation; Dan Diaz, husband of the late Brittany Maynard; and Reverend Madison Shockley, pastor at Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Carlsbad. In the PSAs, they share their experiences of losing loved ones to terminal illnesses. They emphasize the importance of the End of Life Option Act and how access to the law can make a substantial difference in one’s end-of-life journey. The PSAs encourage viewers to discuss their end-of-life care priorities with their doctor and end with a call-to-action to visit CompassionAndChoices.org/California for free information and resources.
